Spud Webb has led a charmed life. Deemed “too small” to play at the NBA level, the 5’7″ Webb persevered to become a slam dunk champion. Teaming with Doc Rivers, Dominique Wilkins, and Kevin Willis, Spud played a key role on the elite Atlanta Hawks teams of the 1980′s. He was, in his day, one of the most recognizable and beloved ballplayers in the game. Basketball was his ticket, and Spud Webb cashed in.
Fast Forward to 2011. As the President of Player Development for the NBDL’s Texas Legends, Webb has remained active in the game that made him a legend. He has now stepped out of the executive’s suite to try his hand at coaching. Spud Webb has been named head coach of the Rick’s Cabaret/NYC ladies basketball team of the RBA. This league, consisting of teams of entertainers from Rick’s Cabaret International, Inc. men’s gentleman’s clubs across the United States, begins play in January 2012.
“The girls love Spud,” said New York team member Sky. “We picked him to be coach because he’s such an inspiration to people.”
The New York team is expected to play games shortly against dancers from the Minneapolis Downtown Cabaret and Tootsie’s Cabaret in Miami.
“All the [teams'] players are hot,” said Sky. “But we’re New York, baby! And we’re going to whip their pretty butts.”
For Spud Webb, it appears, the charmed life continues…
Breaking News!! Former NBA Player to Coach in RBA!! Rick’s Cabaret New York has confirmed that a former NBA superstar will become the 1st head coach of the newly formed Rick’s Basketball Association (RBA). This league is comprised of teams made up of dancers from the Rick’s Cabaret group of gentlemen’s clubs. The new coach is scheduled to be introduced at a press conference tomorrow at noon at Rick’s Cabaret/New York City.
The ladies from Rick’s Cabaret/New York City have already been outfitted with sexy new uniforms (see previous post here), but up until this week were without a coach. Their new mentor is expected to whip them into shape to compete against teams from the company’s other clubs. The full league schedule will be announced in January 2012.
“People will be amazed when we tell them who our coach is, because he was one of the great players in the NBA” said Gianna, a player for the New York team. “The girls are really excited. We’re practically busting out of our tops! We plan to give him a really warm welcome on Tuesday.”
“I hear he’s going to have us do a workout on Tuesday in front of the press,” said Sky, the point guard for the team. “I can’t wait to show off some of my moves!”
Who could this mystery coach be? Shaquille O’Neal? Dennis Rodman? Former New York Knick John Starks? We will find out tomorrow @ noon (EST)!
Finally! The guys over at are Rick’s NY are delivering a real solution to the NBA lockout. Take one part basketball and one part HOT chicks, mix in skimpy uniforms and what do you get? Women’s Basketball done right, that’s what!
Think about it…Topless dancers from Rick’s Cabaret NYC and its sister clubs around the country have formed their own basketball league to try to take up some of the slack as the National Basketball Association negotiations continue. The girls, all dolled up in their sexy new uniforms, introduced the Rick’s Basketball Association (the RBA) at a press conference on Tuesday in NY.
According to Rick’s Cabaret NY starting Center Skyler said, “All the girls at Rick’s Cabaret are in shape and know how to use their bodies. I’m excited to play the hot girls from our other clubs!”
RBA teams are being assembled at the company’s Tootsie’s Cabaret in Miami, Club Onyx in Charlotte, Houston, Dallas and Philadelphia, and Rick’s Cabarets and XTC Cabarets in New York, Houston, Dallas, Minneapolis and Indianapolis.
What’s that? The WNBA has already done women’s basketball? Not like this! Seeing is believing!
