It’s January now, and for the “have-nots” of the NFL, it is time to start looking for the next big thing to turn their franchises around. Heck, many of the usual suspects are back from last year, again wondering where they went wrong in their quest for the Lombardi Trophy. This year, however, there might just be a prize available to some of these squads that can help deliver that 180 degree turn these squads want : Peyton Manning.

“Repo, you are off your rocker!” is a thought that might be crossing your mind right about now, but with Manning due a roster bonus on more than $20 million this summer, and Andrew Luck, franchise QB of the future, looming as the Colts first pick, the Peyton Manning era is coming to a close in Indy. However, for these select teams, trading your 1st round and 2nd round picks for Manning might be just what the doctor ordered.

Washington Redskins – Owner Dan Snyder is never afraid to shell out big bucks for players. He just sucks at it. However, if he has a chance to land a hall of fame QB to go with his hall of fame coach, the ‘Skins can ride again in the weak NFC East. Washington features a stud young RB in Roy Helu, underrated WRs, a solid offensive line, and a defense waiting for a reason to be good. Manning could be that spark.

Dallas Cowboys – Yes, I know they already have a pro bowl QB, but the “Romo-sexuals” will be out of luck if Jerry Jones has a legitimate shot at landing the Oreo Dunkster. Boasting an impressive array of offensive weapons including Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, Demarco Murray, and Jason Witten, the Cowboys are eerily similar to the Peyton Manning led Indy juggernauts of season’s past. Factor in Jones’ hatred of losing, and this would be the ideal landing spot for Manning. Oh, and let’s not forget about how the Giants/Cowboys match-ups would become “must see tv” for even the most casual fan.

Tennessee Titans – Losing Jeff Fisher hurts, but Manning played his college ball here and would instantly legitmize the Titans as a contender. This team features a great, if erratic, Chris Johnson and some (injury prone) weapons at WR, but might not be as attractive to Manning at this point in his career. Still, it would be a great homecoming if it happened.

Miami Dolphins - Although they would probably deny it, the NFL power that be would love nothing more than for Manning to land with the ‘Fins and square off with rival Tom Brady twice a season. The Dolphins have pro bowl caliber talent at wide receiver and running back, and really are a QB away from “arriving” on the scene in the AFC East.

New York Jets – Let’s face it: Mark Sanchez is the worst quarterback this side of Tim Tebow. The guy has all the makings of a career backup and has no business quarterbacking a team in one of the NFL’s marquee markets. Enter Peyton Manning, who would instantly ignite the rivalry with brother Eli of the NFC Giants. They would also provide Peyton with something he has never had: a great defense to keep him on the field. Still, this is a long shot, and this squad has old, overrated talent on offense and might not be the best fit for Manning at this point in his career.

Our Pick: The Dallas Cowboys

This squad is a Peyton Manning away from being the scariest (sorry Packer and Saints fans) offensive team in football. A healthy Peyton to the Cowboys makes them the team to beat, not only in the NFC East but in the entire NFL. Jerry Jones, make it so!
