Is Nintendo Losing Its Edge?

Long the standard in home console gaming, word on the street is that the boys over at Nintendo are scuffing after posting a nearly $1 billion dollar loss in the first half of this year. According to TechCrunch, “Not too long ago, Nintendo was printing money every month after landing two hardware smash hits in a row, the Wii and the DS. But these times are now over, it seems. The company posted their financial report for the first six months of their fiscal year (which ends in March 2012) today, and it has registered a loss of US$923 million.
Revenue dropped by 41% to US$2.83 billion.”
What does this mean for the “Big N”? Is Nintendo’s downward turn a byproduct of its own success? I mean, the Wii system beyond saturated the market when this generation of consoles launched, pairing unique controls with family friendly gaming to take the early lead in the console wars. However, with weak 3rd party support (always a problem for Nintendo) and weaker hardware specs(ditto) than their competition, can Nintendo survive this latest drop?
After watching this video on the new Wii U, it looks like they are going to give it their best shot
