Just got through watching the Chicago Bears hand the Detroit Lions their lunch this afternoon and I came to the following conclusion: the Detroit Lions suck. Not in the their typical “0-16, can’t wait for our shot at the #1 pick, can you believe we hired Matt Millen” way. No, they have found a brand new way to suck at American football. Here are some musings from an admittedly biased Bears fan:
- Matthew Stafford is a great Qb. Especially if “Qb” stands for “questionable ballplayer”. This gridiron great picked a heck of a time to have his worse game of the year. 63 pass attempts resulted in 3 touchdown passes. Unfortunately for Lions fans, two of them were to the Bears secondary. Throw in Stafford’s lame non-attempt to tackle Peanut Tillman on his return, and his insistense on wearing gloves (really?), and his cowardly facemask tackle of Bears defensive back D.J. Moore on yet another interception, and Lion’s fans should be wondering about this kid’s maturity.
- Ndamukong Suh is a dirty player. However, he is dirty in a “Dennis Rodman” kind of way. He is an awesome talent, and is smart enough to do his dirt without any blatantly flagrant transgressions. This guy is a tough ballplayer, point blank, and the Detroit “Rock City” Kitties have a great one to watch for years to come.
- The Lions have no running game to speak of. See Matthew Stafford’s 63 pass attempts above.
- After all of these years of losing, Detroit has a serious chip on their shoulders. They do not, however, have the roster or the gameplan (did I mention 63 pass attempts?) to seriously compete this year. An 8-8 record is the likely outcome for this year’s squad, as they have yet to face the Green Bay Packers. Chalk up two losses there. They will remain, at least for this season, the awkward, pimply faced little brother to the Packers and Bears.
